Glass Media Filter Plants

Glass Media Filter Plants – delivering ultra-fine, low-maintenance filtration that outperforms conventional sand filters for crystal-clear, resource-efficient water.

What It Does

Sarvoʼs Glass Media Filter Plants replace traditional silica sand with specially graded recycled- glass media, engineered into skid-mounted pressure vessels sized to each clientʼs flow, footprint, and water-quality targets. Water enters the vessel and percolates through the angular glass granules; their negative surface charge attracts and traps turbidity, algae, oils, and metals down to 3 5 µm, four to five times finer than typical sand media. Because glass is lighter and non-porous, it resists bio-fouling and channeling, sustaining high filtration rates (up to 20 m³ h¹ m²) with minimal head-loss. Backwash cycles are shorter and less frequent—glass needs 25 40% less rinse water and up to 30% less energy than sand systems. Media life exceeds ten years, two to three times the service life of sand, cutting replacement labour and disposal volumes. PLC-controlled valves automate filtration, backwash, and rinse modes, while optional inline turbidity sensors trigger demand-based cleaning to optimize uptime. Modular designs range from 5 m³/h polishing units to 500 m³/h high-throughput trains, integrating seamlessly with RO, UF, or disinfection stages for potable, process, or recycling applications.
