Demineralization (DM) Plants

Complete Ion Removal for Ultra-Pure Applications

Advanced ion exchange systems providing comprehensive mineral removal for pharmaceutical, power generation, and electronics manufacturing applications.

What It Does & How It Works

Demineralization plants utilise strong acid cation (SAC) and strong base anion (SBA) exchange resins in separate or mixed-bed configurations to remove virtually all dissolved salts and minerals from water. The process begins with cation exchange, where positively charged ions like calcium, magnesium, and sodium are replaced with hydrogen ions. Subsequently, anion exchange removes negatively charged ions such as chlorides, sulfates, and bicarbonates, replacing them with hydroxide ions. The hydrogen and hydroxide ions combine to form pure water, achieving conductivity levels below 1 µS/cm. Mixed-bed systems combine both resin types in a single vessel, providing superior water quality with resistivity exceeding 10 megohm-cm. Regeneration processes using hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide restore resin capacity, with automated systems optimising chemical usage and minimising waste generation. Advanced monitoring systems track conductivity, pH, and resin exhaustion to optimise regeneration timing and ensure consistent water quality.
